Brian,

Can you tell us a little bit about each photo you submitted and where these majestic engines reside/run? Thanks.

the first engin is the cass scenic #2 operating out of cass west virginia. the line has several operating shays and most trains have multiple engins due to the severe grades on the old logging grade they use

the second is west side lumber #9 it is in iowa at a theshing show grounds somewhere... or is it illinois? in any case it is off a narrow gauge logging operation out in oregon or california (dammned memory)

first time i have seen the 1551

the 6325 is an ex canadian national engin whitch i belive is on the ohio central railroad, if i am right about that then it is also looking for a home

these are links to photos of leslie rotarys built under contract by the alco locomotive works in 1923 and ?

they are both in good condition but management on both railroads (cumbres and toltec, and the white pass and youkon) have both come to the conclusion that they are more trouble than they are worth and have retired them :(

they have not run since the late 90's

here is a vid of the rotary in action!

they usually throw to the right side of the tracks so that the guy running the throttle (no govener) can see how the snow is throwing from his position halfway down the side of the blower the guys at the "cab" (pilot house) run the show and the two guys at the back of the blower throw coal like there life depended on it

this one hasent run in years due to lack of funds and friction bearings (read lap seam verses butt strap)

an interesting desine feature of this engin is that the trailing truck is a booster AND its frame is the drawbar through whitch the engine is connected to the train
