Postby OldIronLvr » Sun Apr 27, 2008 8:38 am

Hello all just picked me up a 1950's ish Cunningham Walk Behind Sickle mower. Its goin to need some TLC for sure but definately a good canidate for a restore. Just noticed this moring that one of the tires has a whole in the side wall , thinken might be time for a rubber patch job on that one since it already has a tube in it.

looks like you got a steal. That will make a great addition to the display this year. Save the head gasket if it is any good, they are close to the briggs N's but not quite. I had to modify mine. I do have another shrowd for the engine, just needs some of the dents taken out, but it doesnt have any holes in it. I am going up the parents today, I will snap a pic of the cultivators I got up there see if it is anything you may want.

Here is what I picked up last week, a Cunningham model MB with a Cunningham model EA engine:

The engine turns over and I do feel air comming through the muffler. The gas tank has surface rust but is not too bad. It looks possible to have the motor running.

I started to get some of the dirt off the frame, and about 70% of the mower has good paint with very minimal rust. So I will be leaving the paint alone. Only the handle bars and the sickle blade will probably get a touch of paint.

This model has oil cups for the shaft instead of the grease fittings.

The only question I have now is what type of spark plug to use? It came with a Champion cj8 but have a feeling that it may be too small for this older engine.

Rick I run a J8 champion in my the tall version of the cj8. Or you could run an autolite 295 which most Advance Autoparts stock.
